Ciccarelli demoed and filled our fiberglass pool very quickly and efficiently. Highly recommend them if you are looking to fill in your pool. They handled the city permit process for demo and provided an engineering compaction report. The cost was very reasonable compared to other quotes I received.

I recently hired Cicarelli Contractors for demolition of my swimming pool. From our initial discussion to our final completion Athalyson and his crew were true professionals. Our pool is on a hill with limited access. His crew was able to get their equipment in place for the demolition and wheelbarrow fill dirt up hill. Some of those days had 90+ temps.
I was consistently impressed with the quality and professionalism of his crew. His crews seemed to always have a smile. The project was completed in a timely manner. His crew were consistently courteous and respectful of my property and maintained a clean work environment, restoring the site to its original condition.
I highly recommend Cicarelli Contractors for any construction needs. Their commitment to quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction is commendable.

Just this past week, I hired Cicarelli Contractors to install a carport. Initially I wanted concrete but after speaking with Athalyson and being educated on pavers instead of regular concrete we decided to go with his recommendation. And to our surprise the pavers turned out to be the correct choice versus a concrete slab. The color that we chose really compliments the paint that’s on the house. Cicarelli did an incredible job. They followed the timeline to completion to a tee and each day they worked at my home they always cleaned up before they left for the day. We are so excited how everything turned out, our neighbors constantly come over to say how beautiful the pavers look. To my surprise they completed the work in one week. Not only did they have to prep the work they also had to remove 3 large trees and the existing fence and replace it with a new one. Still hard to believe they did all that work in a short period of time and at the end everything looks very professional.

Pool removal cost depends on five things: partial or full removal, the pool's size and material (gunite, fiberglass or vinyl), equipment access to the backyard, the amount of haul-off and backfill, and your city's permit and compaction requirements. We give a free, written quote within 24 hours after a site visit or photos.
In a partial pool removal, the upper part of the pool walls is broken out, the floor is perforated for drainage and the shell is filled and compacted. It costs less but limits what you can build later. In a full pool removal, the entire shell, rebar and plumbing are removed and the hole is backfilled with compacted soil, which is the option to choose if you plan an ADU, addition or heavy hardscape.
Most Bay Area cities require a demolition or building permit and a final inspection to remove an in-ground pool. We handle the permit, utility shut-off coordination, demolition, haul-off and inspection as part of the job.
Yes, if the pool is fully removed and the backfill is compacted and documented. Building departments and engineers usually ask for a compaction report before approving an ADU or addition on a former pool site, so choose full removal if you plan to build.
It depends on the pool size, removal type, equipment access and your city's inspection schedule. Our Google reviews mention a pool demolition finished in 4 days, where other companies had quoted 2 weeks. We give you a timeline with your estimate and send photo updates during the job.
Yes. Cicarelli Contractors Inc. holds California CSLB License #1109419 (B – General Building) with an active contractor's bond. You can verify it on the CSLB website.
We are based in Richmond, CA and serve nine Bay Area counties: Contra Costa, Alameda, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Marin, Sonoma, Napa and Solano, including Berkeley, Oakland, El Cerrito, Walnut Creek, Concord, San Ramon, Vallejo, San Rafael and San Jose.
After removal and backfill, the space can become a lawn, artificial turf, a paver patio, an outdoor kitchen or the site for an ADU. We design and build the new space with the same crew, so you don't need a second contractor.
Filling in a pool (partial removal) usually costs less, because less concrete is broken out and hauled away. Full removal costs more but leaves buildable, documented soil, which matters if you may build an ADU, an addition or heavy hardscape later. We quote both options so you can compare them side by side.
It can, depending on your neighborhood and buyers. Removing an unused or damaged pool ends maintenance and safety concerns and frees the yard for a patio, turf or an ADU. A full removal with a compaction report is the option buyers and inspectors question least. Read more about pool removal and home value.
Yes. We remove concrete, gunite, fiberglass and vinyl in-ground pools, plus spas and the surrounding deck. Fiberglass and vinyl shells are cut up and hauled away, then the hole is backfilled and compacted. Our Google reviews include a fiberglass pool removal with a compaction report and a vinyl pool and deck removal.

Pool Removal Guide · Updated October 2026
Pool removal cost in the Bay Area depends on five things: whether you choose partial or full removal, the pool's size and material, equipment access to your backyard, the volume of haul-off and backfill, and your city's permit and compaction rules. Cicarelli gives a free written quote within 24 hours.

Filling in a pool, also called partial pool removal or pool abandonment, is usually the lower-cost option because less concrete is broken out and hauled away. The trade-off is buildability: a filled-in area is usually fine for lawn, turf or a light patio, but not for an ADU or addition.
Learn how pool fill-in and backfill work.
Most Bay Area cities require a demolition or building permit and a final inspection to remove an in-ground pool. Utilities to the pool are shut off and capped first, and for a full removal many cities also ask for a compaction report before they sign off.
We pull the permit, coordinate utility shut-offs, and schedule the inspection for you. Read the pool demolition permit rules in California.
Yes, if the pool is fully removed and the backfill is compacted and documented with a compaction report. A partial removal usually leaves the area unsuitable for a structure, so decide on the ADU before demolition and choose the removal method your engineer and city will accept.
If you plan an ADU or addition, choose full pool removal. See the documents you need for an ADU on a former pool site.
Compare partial pool removal and full pool removal:
| Partial pool removal | Full pool removal | |
|---|---|---|
| What's removed | Upper part of the walls; floor perforated for drainage | Entire shell, rebar and plumbing |
| Backfill | Shell filled with clean fill and compacted | Engineered backfill compacted in layers, with testing |
| Build on it later? | Limited: lawn, turf or light patios | Yes: ADUs, additions and heavy hardscape |
| Home sale | May need to be disclosed to buyers | Cleanest option for resale |
| Cost | Lower | Higher |
| Best for | Turning the pool area into yard space | Building on the site or selling soon |
